NATURAL DISASTER - FIRE TEAM

ACTIONS BY THE FIRE TEAM LEADER

1. Contact the Emergency Control Center (ECC) and determine the location of the incident.
2. Respond to the fire team assembly point and brief the fire team on actions required.
3. Respond to the scene of the incident and determine if the fire team's assistance will be required, i.e. emergency rescue, etc.
4. If emergency rescue is required, instruct the fire team members to obtain the required equipment.
5. Provide immediate feedback to the ECC on actions taken and planned.
6. Constantly survey the conditions around the scene of the incident and take appropriate action if conditions change, i.e. structural collapse, etc.
7. Once the person(s) was rescued, provide immediate feedback to the ECC.
8. Provide assistance to the first aiders where required.
9. Keep all persons out of the affected area to prevent further injuries and to preserve the area for the purpose of an incident investigation.

1. Obtain the necessary PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) required to perform a rescue operation.
2. Wait for instructions from the fire team leader after he completed an assessment of the incident.
3. Cautiously approach the injurd person taking care not to cause further injury or discomfort.
4. Assess the scene and determine the best way to rescue an injured person.
5. If a person cannot be moved to a triarge area for treatment, assist the first aiders to treat the injured person at the scene of the incident.
6. If specialised equipment is required, notify the ECC and wait for back up while making the injured person as comfortable as possible.
7. Once the injured person has been rescued, assist the first aiders to remove the patient to a safer area.
8. Keep the area clear of any curious persons to prevent further injuries.
