HAZARDOUS LEAK OR SPILLAGE - EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES

ACTIONS BY THE MEDICAL OFFICER

1. Report to the Emergency Control Center (ECC) and introduce your team to the Emergency Co-ordinator and Emergency Management Team.
2. Share contact details in order to allow for easy communication during the incident.
3. Respond to the scene of the medical emergency and assess the situation.
4. Instruct the paramedics to get to work and retract all first aid team members from the scene of the incident.
5. If deemed safe, instruct the first aid team members to assist where required.
6. Provide regular feedback to the ECC on progress and status of the medical operations.
7. Once the patient(s) has been treated and loaded for medical evacuation, notify the ECC.
8. Obtain all relevant WCF documentation for the injury on duty for submission at the hospital.
9. Notify the ECC to which hospital the patient will be transported to.
10. If deemed safe, declare the area safe for re-entry of employees to resume their work.

1. Paramedics must attend to the medical emergency and affected areas. DO NOT wander around the site without an escort or permission.
2. DO NOT declare the area safe to re-enter without corresponding with the ECC first.
3. DO NOT correspond with employees of the company, i.e. possible cause of the incident, status of the patient, etc. directly. All correspondence must be communicated via the ECC.
4. DO NOT correspond with the media. All correspondence with the media must occur via the ECC.
5. DO NOT involve first aid team members with advanced medical techniques if they are not properly trained to do so.
