FIRE IN THE WORKPLACE - FIRE DEPARTMENT

On arrival at the scene of a fire, the Fire Department must do the following:

Report to the Emergency Control Center (ECC) and introduce your team to the Emergency Co- ordinator and Emergency Management Team.
Share contact details in order to allow for easy communication during the incident.
Respond to the scene of the fire and assess the fire and surrounding areas.
Instruct fire fighters to get to work and retract all fire team members from the scene of the fire.
If deemed safe, instruct the fire team members to assist where required.
Provide regular feedback to the ECC on progress and status of the fire fighting operations.
Once extinguished, provide immediate feedback to the ECC.
Monitor the situation for any reignition and provide immeidate feedback to the ECC if conditions.
Conduct the relevant salvage operations.
Once certain that the fire is completely extinguished, close off the area and prevent further tampering with the fire scene to enable a fire investigation (if deemed necessary).
If deemed safe, declare the area safe for re-entry of employees to resume their work.

Fire Fighters must attend to the fire and affected areas. DO NOT wander around the site without an escort or permission.
DO NOT declare the area safe to re-enter without corresponding with the ECC first.
DO NOT correspond with employees of the company, i.e. possible cause of the fire, etc. directly. All correspondence must be communicated via the ECC.
DO NOT correspond with the media. All correspondence with the media must occur via the ECC.
DO NOT involve fire team members with advanced fire fighting techniques if they are not properly trained to do so.
